Studio #15 - Millwater stormwater pond

Updated: Nov 18, 2021

Slides, documentation images of site, materials and bike:

Notes:

Stills from Millwater, compared with stills from Waikato riverside I made earlier in the year.

Thinking:

- local reserve in silverdale + Waikato/ popular tourist site ---->playing one after the other in the same screen. We don't know which is which. How sites becomes subverted into the same thing through the bike filming support.

-------------> A comparison f the 2 landscapes, and the possible relationships between the two.

Should I go the the Waikato/other major tourism site again to film it for this strand of the project? (Lockdown - so undoable)

-----------------------> what relationships do the sites make to each other when mingled and re-observed through the bike support, and seen together on a screen/projection as ------------>questions the treatment and perspectives on the two different sites... ----------------> the idea of the encounter - my encounter, the audience's encounter through my intervention within those two sites. What kind on linkages do the sites already have - water-based sites, human recreation

Waikato is embedded in history and cultural significance as well as tourism while the Millwater stormwater pond is an attempt to bring nature into this very recent suburban space.

So two very different sites -----------------> Waikato/Huntly/Hamilton in conversation with site in Auckland, Silverdale ...the furthest site I one to with the closet site I went to....and also in a conversation with the current covid lockdowns in both those cities. How would this conversation hold up in exhibition...would the merging of these two sites in video make my project more about site or more about an environment...the water, the in-between-space around water and land.
