Studio Research #8

Finding glitches and missed bits of land on Satellite Maps.

A post-lockdown exploration of landscape. Digital travel from my bedroom (rather than physical travel via car) and a durational journey through the NZ topography. Glimpses of what is recognised as New Zealand’s pristine and striking landscape become viewed through loading data as it tries to keep up with my scrolling...an obtrusive movement through space and an attempt to find particular missed patches of land. Such mismatched sections are discovered, screen-grabbed, then saved onto my desktop.

A reflection of place, time, and the failure of technology. Using the map, it falls short of modern expectations to be precise and consistent as possible via scientific systems and camera technology.
